Smart i-Change (Self-host AI LLM Chatbot)
A privacy-conscious, self-hosted AI support platform for ELCHK's i-Change service, giving people affected by gambling addiction round-the-clock conversational support while authorised agents can monitor, intervene and take over when human help is needed.
The challenge
Understanding the real problem
The service needed to extend support beyond office hours without sending sensitive conversations to an uncontrolled third-party environment. The AI experience had to feel natural and supportive, while keeping data governance and escalation to trained staff at the centre of the service.
The approach
Designed around people and operations
i2 combined website, chatbot and infrastructure work in one implementation. We deployed the language model on local servers, connected it to the service platform and designed management tools so authorised agents could observe conversations, intervene and assume control when appropriate.
The solution
A system built to keep working
Smart i-Change provides a self-hosted conversational support channel with contextual responses, controlled data handling and human oversight. It expands service availability while preserving a clear path from automated assistance to trained staff.
Self-hosted AI
Runs the language model on locally controlled infrastructure rather than relying on an unmanaged public chatbot service.
Contextual conversation
Supports more natural exchanges designed around the service context and the emotional needs of people seeking help.
Human intervention
Authorised agents can monitor sessions, intervene and take over when a conversation requires professional judgement.
Service management tools
Backend controls give the team an operational view of chatbot interactions and escalation activity.
Measured outcomes
Useful change, shown clearly
The existing project description states that the chatbot provides round-the-clock support for people affected by gambling addiction.
Inside the work
Interfaces and moments that matter
Responsible delivery
Trust is part of the architecture
Accessibility and inclusion
The responsive web experience gives users a direct conversational route to support across desktop and mobile devices, reducing the steps required to begin a private interaction.
Responsible AI and data
The model is deployed on local infrastructure to retain control of sensitive data. Authorised agents can monitor sessions, intervene and take over, keeping human judgement available for higher-risk or complex conversations.
